Combining Vibrant Activity with Relaxing Charm

The town is a highly popular shopping destination, combining the best of the high street with designer-brand boutiques and major department stores. The centre enjoys a bustling, cosmopolitan café culture and regular outdoor events and festivals, together with a wide range of restaurants, hotels and leisure facilities.

With outstanding schools and colleges, more than 1,000 acres of parks and green spaces and a broad mix of rural and urban communities to choose from, the town was rated the most popular place to live in the UK in 2014.

Town Centre Masterplan

Solihull Council has developed a refreshed Town Centre Masterplan providing a blueprint for future investment and development in the town centre over the next twenty years. It seeks to provide a framework to maximise opportunities, make best use of existing assets, and set out a clear vision for Solihull in 2036 while still retaining the character which makes the town centre so popular.

Westgate Solihull.

We are currently developing ambitious plans for re-developing the Town Centre ‘Westgate, 21 Homer Road’ site.

Based at the corner of Homer Road and Station Road, this key strategic and commercial location offers huge potential for investment and development.

Plans are being shaped, in response to occupier demand and investor confidence in the area, for a landmark office scheme with the potential to deliver over 10,000sq m of new Grade A office space in a key location close to Solihull Train Station.

The scheme will form a vital part of the Council’s town centre Masterplan which provides a clear blueprint for future investment and development in the town centre over the next 20 years.

In addition to the newly created Grade A office space, the scheme will also offer an innovative and flexible co-working and collaboration space and will be rated as BREEAM Excellent.

Eastgate

Capitalising on continued investor confidence and demand in Solihull town centre, the Council are seeking potential partners to help deliver this exciting new development opportunity.

Eastgate represents a 5.66 acre strategic site in the town centre adjacent to the High Street which is being promoted by the Council as part of a Business & Commercial Quarter within the town. The scale of the site and its strategic location connecting to the retail core of the town makes Eastgate a compelling investment opportunity for the area.

The vision for this site includes delivering new homes, business spaces, public squares and civic accommodation while creating the potential for an enhanced cultural and arts offer.

Town Centre Public Realm Strategy

Working with design and engineering consultants Arcadis, we are currently developing proposals for an exciting new Public Realm Strategy (PRS).

This will help guide design principles for future developments and provide continuity across our public spaces, streets and greenspaces within the town centre. From bins to benches and lighting to street signage we want to ensure our approach to high quality public realm respects and enhances Solihull’s distinctiveness and identity.

Town Centre Energy Network

Plans are being progressed to deliver an alternative source of affordable low carbon energy to town centre buildings.

The first phase will see up to six customers benefit from the town centre network with the potential to significantly expand capacity in future phases. The scheme will utilise renewable energy captured by air source heat pumps and distribute it from a single energy centre directly into town centre buildings.

Heat networks present a key opportunity for reducing heat emissions, particularly in urban areas. They offer an affordable and flexible alternative to individual building heat generation, and often provide access to low carbon and renewable technology that may otherwise be difficult to affordably implement.

Driven by UK Central, this exciting project will help Solihull Council deliver on its ambitious climate change commitments by reducing the borough’s greenhouse gas emissions and increasing the amount of renewable and low carbon energy used to heat and power buildings.

Heat accounts for nearly half of the UK’s energy use and a third of greenhouse gas emissions. This scheme will free building operators from their reliance on natural gas and other fossil fuels while helping Solihull in its drive towards Net Zero Carbon emissions by 2041.
