The Caledonian Sleeper has unveiled a landmark update to its overnight train service, introducing a new calling point at Birmingham International in Solihull from January 2026. This marks the most significant change to the service’s timetable in over 30 years and opens direct, convenient access for Solihull and West Midlands residents to the Scottish Highlands.
Tickets for the new route will go on are now on sale, with the inaugural departure from Birmingham International station scheduled for the evening of 15 January 2026. The service will connect passengers directly to Aberdeen, Fort William, and Inverness, offering a seamless overnight journey to some of Scotland’s most iconic destinations.
This strategic expansion aims to bridge longstanding transport gaps between the West Midlands and the Highlands, enhancing leisure and business travel while supporting sustainable tourism and economic growth across both regions.
Cllr Karen Grinsell, Leader of Solihull Council, welcomed the announcement:
